Sal Buckley

Sal has a PhD in social anthropology from Durham University which she gained whist working in development with Gypsies and Travellers in the UK and for which she held a scholarship from the Wingate Foundation. She has a wealth of experience in cross-cultural projects, in particular artist exchanges and international artist residencies and has worked with European Roma, with Australian Aboriginal artists and with artists from the US, Denmark, Iraq and India.

Sal also has a great deal of experience working in governmental organisations and has filled a number of roles in local government, from managing research programmes to developing and delivering counter terrorism policies. She has also acted as an advisor to national government within the UK and collaborated with research companies such as MORI and Demos to develop practical applications of theoretical research, in particular developing the links between quantitative and qualitative data. Sal is well used to delivering presentations and proposals to a wide variety of audiences, can work to tight and demanding deadlines and is an extremely competent manager of both resources and people.

Sal currently holds a Research Fellowship from the Leverhulme Trust and is conducting research into the role of music in deprived ex-mining communities and its potential to help build more sustainable communities.
