PEGS in Papua New Guinea

Through its founder Prof Scarlett Epstein OBE, PEGS has been involved in Papua New Guinea for over 50 years.

On the 7th August 2008 PEGS became an official NGO in Papua New Guinea and appointed Paul Hukahu as its Director. Paul Hukahu has a wealth of community development experience in PNG and has worked for a number of international and local NGO's in achieving sustainable development in rural communities.

Through the appointment of Paul Hukahu and the setting up of an infrastucture in PNG, PEGS is using its unrivalled experience and local and international development expertise to work with local communities to develop programs and research intiatives into areas such as HIV/Aids, education and business development.

Projects under development

                        i)         Formation of an umberella NGO,

ii)                   Vanilla Project

iii)                  Botanical Gardens Project

iv)                  An innovative pilot education project

v)                    OSFEPS (One Stop Farm Enterprise Promotion Centres)

vi)                  PREFOL  (Practical Education for Life)

vii)                 Workshop to train PNG Nationals in WATER RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

viii)               Action Research  that focuses on the impact of traditional beliefs and cultural norms on the spread of HIV/AIDS

ix)                 In-country and Distant Learning  CASOMAR/CASM (Culturally-Adapted Social Market Research/Social Marketing  Training Courses
