Short Biography for Ian Cameron for PEGS

Ian has worked in education as a teacher, manager, and assessment consultant, in counselling and therapy, and in professional writing in Britain and in Canada. In 2005 he went to Papua New Guinea, working as a VSO volunteer, where he found all aspects of his experience invaluable: he worked with Simbu teachers to study the reasons for poor English exam results, create the Simbu English Teachers’ Association, and to create the first textbook written by PNG Nationals specifically to meet the needs of their students.

Working in a person-centred way, and helping people find and develop their own answers and resources is, I believe, essential. I can envision what I would do if I were in another person’s shoes. If others find themselves inspired by that vision, so much the better, but in the end, they must work for their own development, in order to own the results.

Ian has an M.A. in English from the University of Toronto, is a qualified teacher in England and Wales, and is an accredited counsellor with the British Association for Counselling and Therapy. He has worked to Senior Lecturer level in Further Education, been an External Verifier for City and Guilds, a Counselling Supervisor for a WPF Affiliate, and has extensive syllabus-writing experience.
