Margaret Wolfson joined the UK Treasury after having completed a B.A. (History) at the LSE and was selected as UK participant in the World Bank’s annual trainee programme. She stayed on as staff member in its Latin American Department in Guatemala, initially as assistant to the Bank’s Resident Representative and later as Technical Adviser to the Guatemalan National Planning Council. Then she was lent  to the UN as member of a small team to process the first project requests to be submitted to the newly-created UNDP.

 

After two years with the Department of Technical Co-operation (subsequently the MoD) in London she joined the OECD in Paris, first in the Technical Assistance Department, and later, as Head of the Population Research Unit at the OECD’s Development Centre,

 

After retirement she acted as consultant for the World Bank, for the Ministry of Overseas Development (MoD) and for the OECD and French population research bodies. She also presented an annual series of seminars at the Population Studies Unit of the University of Cardiff.

 

Her numerous well-reviewed publications have made an important contribution to more enlightened population policies.
