Dr T.Scarlett Epstein OBE
Dr. T. SCARLETT EPSTEIN OBE, has served in many capacities over a distinguished career, including Research Professor the University of Sussex, England (1972-1984). She now divides her professional time between PEGS, a UK based NGO, the Social Assessment Consultancy, and Intervention Ltd in India.
As a development economist, Scarlett has pioneered the disciplines of development anthropology and culturally-adapted social market research and social marketing. Scarlett continues to conduct training workshops for indigenous trainers of local investigators and operators on these topics, as well as commercial market research and marketing to promote small enterprises and "cyclical marketing".
Since the 1950's she has conducted action-oriented in-depth socio-economic micro-society studies in South India and Papua New Guinea that focus on poverty alleviation in rural areas in general and on the role of rural women in development in particular.
Scarlett has published 14 books and more than 75 articles. Scarlett has conducted numerous consultanciesfor most of the large donor agencies and NGOs as well as for a number of development documentaries.
